Ep.171 Madeleine’s greatest Bring & Brag, Intarsia Knits

Ep.171 is a more relaxed episode as we welcome a brand new member of the Fruity Knitting team onto the couch: Madeleine’s baby boy! Madeleine briefly share’s her birth experience, before we move on to two exciting new projects in Bring & Brag and Under Construction. And finally, we meet Anna Husemann who is the talented & creative designer behind Intarsia Knits, a book filled with colourful and playful intarsia designs.

Intarsia Knits

We have a fantastic feature interview for you today with German textile and knitwear designer Anna Husemann, author of Intarsia Knits. Anna is the queen of intarsia! Her designs feature bold, organic and abstract landscapes.

She teaches workshops where she shares her creative process, starting with paper cut-outs and collages that she then transforms into knitted designs. In the interview, she demonstrates this process in a wonderfully hands-on way.

It’s inspiring to watch, with all the colours, shapes and creative ideas coming together. The interview is a visual feast, the results are simply gorgeous, so you’ll really enjoy it!

Under Construction - Notturno Sweater by Zanete Knits

For our recent Austrian Alps Knitting Retreat with ZaneteKnits, Zanete designed the beautiful Notturno Sweater for our Fruity Knitting Sport yarn range! Notturno is the Italian word for a nocturne refers to a musical composition inspired by the night, often calm, dreamy and romantic. Think of Chopin, who famously composed 21 beautiful nocturnes for solo piano.

I’m knitting my version in light, spring-like colours: Wild Mint and White Opal. They give the design a completely different mood. So, staying with the musical theme, I might call my version Printemps, which is French for spring.

Azali Beanie by Zanete Knits

During our recent Austrian Alps Knitting Retreat with Zanete Knits, Zanete needed a simple project she could knit during all the social activities. For example, we took a cruise on Lake Achensee one afternoon, which gave us plenty of time for social knitting. And on our trip into Innsbruck, there were lots of opportunities to get a few more rows in! So, Zanete suggested knitting up her latest hat design in our yarns, which, of course, I was absolutely thrilled about.

It’s a wonderfully versatile pattern, written to work with almost any gauge, making it perfect for using up leftover yarn. With our Fruity Knitting Sport yarn you get a gauge of roughly 24st per 10cm. Essentially, you just knit a plain stockinette swatch in your chosen yarn and measure your head. Zanete provides all the numbers you need to knit the beanie to your gauge and head size. You can knit it in a single colour, but I think two colours make it more interesting.

With our yarn, two 50-gram balls are more than enough. And if you’ve already bought our yarn for a larger project, you might have a couple of balls left over to make a matching hat! We now have yarn suggestions for the Azali Beanie on our website, artisanfibres.com, along with a link to the pattern.
